Loop Intelligence Data Dictionary: Fields

Summary: Every field available in Loop Intelligence reports, with a plain-language definition. Start with Common terms if you're looking for something by the name you already use, such as carrier or shipper.

Common terms: where to find them

Loop uses consistent names across every vendor and mode. If you're used to a different term, this table shows where to find it.

Key concepts

Services and shipments. A service is any billable activity a vendor performs for you. A shipment is one type of service: an actual movement of freight. Warehousing and platform fees are services but not shipments.

Terminal Amount and Terminal State. Each charge moves through payment stages: Invoiced, Approved, Funded, and Paid. Terminal State is the furthest stage a charge has reached, and Terminal Amount is the amount at that stage. Spend for recent periods can change as charges are audited and paid. Which stages apply depends on how your account is set up; for example, Funded applies only when you fund Loop to pay your vendors.

Currency. Charge amounts are stored in the currency they were billed in. Spend metrics convert to the reporting currency you choose in the report, using the exchange rate on the vendor service date (or the invoice date when a charge has no service).

Units. Weight metrics use the unit you choose in the report: pound (default), kilogram, ounce, or gram. Distance metrics use miles (default) or kilometers.

Avoiding double counting. When a charge is split across several cost codes, it appears on several rows. Loop's metrics count each charge once using Is Primary Allocation Row. If you build your own totals from service-level fields, filter to Is Primary Allocation Row = True.

About Reference Numbers: This field holds each reference number type on a shipment with its values, for example PURCHASE_ORDER_NUMBER: PO123, PO456. A shipment includes only the types actually on it. Loop standardizes names across carriers, so labels such as PO and PO Number all appear as Purchase Order Number. Common types include Bill of Lading Number, Container Number, Cost Center, Customer Reference Number, Customs Entry Number, House and Master Air Waybill Numbers, House and Master Bill of Lading Numbers, Pickup Number, Pro Number, Purchase Order Number, Sales Order Number, SKU, and Tracking Number. Types without a standard name appear as the carrier sent them.
